About PCMark04

PCMark04 is a classic benchmark software developed by Futuremark to measure the overall performance of Windows-based computer systems in the early 2000s. Released as the successor to PCMark2002, this benchmark is designed to evaluate the general performance of computers in everyday tasks such as productivity, multimedia, and data processing, using realistic and easy-to-understand testing methods.

PCMark04 uses four main testing suites:

Each test produces separate scores as well as a total score that reflects the system's overall performance. This benchmark is very lightweight and designed to run on various older systems, including computers with low specifications.

Although PCMark04 is no longer under active development, it is still used by the retro computing community and vintage hardware testers to document system performance during its heyday. Additionally, PCMark04 is useful for cross-generational comparisons, particularly when testing vintage computer components or for historical data collection in the tech world.

Overall, PCMark04 remains an important part of benchmarking history, offering an intriguing glimpse into past PC performance standards, and remains relevant for users interested in retro computing or testing classic systems.
